Definitely a thrilling watch, and a captivating search for a theme that links all the clips together. Cam corder footage of crash test dummies, pub gigs, nature documentaries and senseless humans depict this ‘sinful city’, quickly slicing between them all almost at random. The songs ends on a powerful double tracked guitar solo over triumphant drums, a euphoric ending to this rattling train ride.Īn equally impressive music videohas been released to accompany this song. This really shows Seatbelt’s development since their previous EP Please Slow Down, without losing any of their already established personality. Violin-like synths, clarinets and brass give this song a developed, deliberate depth and gift us a new take on traditional big band arrangements. Emotive lyrics are echoed by what sounds like a tannoy system, making you listen to them carefully, like instructions or important information. The song announces itself with gritty guitars and a punching bass, quickly riled up by the drums which kick starts the journey. A modern nod to a new wave Buzzcocks-style tune, with gleaming synths and woodwind arrangement. With bass and guitars that jab you in the sides but suddenly and unexpectedly, sort of like walking through a swarm of flies that you didn’t see congregating there in front of you. Ouster Stew: it opens with a synth line that sets the tone for the song. I’d love to know whose idea it was to have a smack of piano keys falling through the song to introduce the new section at 0:50. You can’t question why they do the things they do, you just have to sit back and marvel at its genius. With Crack Cloud, you’re just along for the ride. Not many songs can break out into a rad drum solo and get away with it. That, along with the layered melodic lines in the guitars make this a real foot tapper. The chanting rhythmic vocals remind me of some Talking Heads song but with more of a panicked vocal twang. Their new single Ouster Stew is so good, however, that is has opened my eyes to their greatness. I think it was Swish Swash I heard at almost 4am after a night out that really shook me to the core I just needed something a bit more… safe vibes. When I first heard Crack Cloud last year, I think they put me so on edge that I couldn’t listen to them without risk of crying a bit.
